Seven have died on Mason County roads so far in 2018.

To date, seven people have lost their lives in seven vehicle crashes on Mason County roads in 2018, the latest on Tuesday of this week.

That number is down compared to nine lives lost in 2017 but up compared to five lives lost in 2016 and three in 2015.

Of the seven fatalities, only two occurred on a highway, US 10, and both of those involved pedestrians. Three of the crashes involved non-automobile vehicles — a moped, a motorcycle, and an ATV. Only one of the crashes involved collisions with another vehicle. All of the victims were local residents.

Those who died on Mason County roads this year included:

  • Christa Lynn Carrier, 15, of Scottville. Died following a single vehicle crash on East Washington Road in Riverton Township on June 10.
  • Curtis Spuller, 55, of Scottville, died on July 13 following a July 7 crash on West Conrad Road in Pere Marquette Township.
  • Ryan Joseph Quick, 32, of Branch, died in a crash that occurred on North Reek Road in Sherman Township on Sunday, July 22. Quick was riding a motorcycle and collided with a pickup truck.
  • Gail Diane Brittain, 66, of Ludington was crossing Ludington Avenue (US 10) on the crosswalk at Jackson Road on Wednesday, Aug. 29, when she was struck by a vehicle. Brittain died on Aug. 31.
  • Jordan James, 20, of Pentwater died after being struck by three vehicles as he crossed US 10-31, east of Meyers Road on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018.
  • Nolan Crawford, 43, of Custer Township, died on Sunday, Nov. 24, following a single ATV crash that occurred on South Stephens Road in Custer Township.
  • Joey Dean Vanderpool, 63, of Sheridan Township, died following a single vehicle crash on East Free Soil Road west of Reek Road in Free Soil Township on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018.
