Marilyn Pinkerton
We are saddened to share the passing of Marilyn F. Pinkerton, who died peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at La Posada in Green Valley, Ariz., with her husband by her side.
Marilyn was born in Hamtramck, to Clyde and Lillian Foster. Tragically, she lost her father in a car accident at a young age. Several years later, her mother married Herb Duncan, a vice president with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. During that time, Marilyn and her family spent ten memorable years living abroad in Japan and the Philippines. Following Herb’s death, Lillian married Ken Pinch, and they shared many happy years together.
The family eventually settled in Grosse Pointe where Marilyn graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1959. She later attended Ferris State College (now Ferris State University), earning a bachelor’s degree in business management.
An accomplished businesswoman, Marilyn owned and operated the Swedish Coffee Pot Restaurant in Ludington. Known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her customers, she could be found there every day ensuring the restaurant provided an exceptional dining experience. She later sold the restaurant, which eventually became known as Scotty’s.
In April 1978, Marilyn married Jim Pinkerton. Together they opened and operated the French Quarter Cheese and Wine Shop in Ludington. Marilyn was also a devoted mother to her two children, Kevin Pollock and Robin Pollock.
After their children left for college, Marilyn and Jim built a beautiful home on Hamlin Lake. Some of Marilyn’s happiest memories were made there, spending time on the water with family and friends. She especially cherished hosting boat rides and gathering loved ones each Fourth of July to watch the spectacular fireworks over Hamlin Lake.
In retirement, Marilyn and Jim enjoyed spending their winters in Green Valley, Arz. They built a beautiful home situated at one of the highest points in Green Valley and enjoyed living there for 10 years before moving to La Posada, a continuing care retirement community.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian, as well as her stepfathers, Herb Duncan and Ken Pinch.
Marilyn will be remembered for her entrepreneurial spirit, her love of entertaining family and friends, and the joy she found in creating welcoming places for others, whether at her businesses, on Hamlin Lake, or in her home.
In accordance with her wishes, no funeral service is planned at this time. Marilyn will be buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington.
