Mason County seeks residents to fill board, commission openings

LUDINGTON — Mason County is seeking residents interested in serving their community through appointments to several county boards and commissions.

The Mason County Board of Commissioners has announced openings on 13 boards, commissions and committees, with terms ranging from one to six years.

Openings include two seats on the Construction Code Board of Appeals, three on the Department of Public Works Board, one on the Department of Health & Human Services Board and two on the Hospital Finance Authority.

The county is also seeking one member for the Mason County District Library Board. Candidates for that position must live in Mason County but outside the city of Ludington, Hamlin Township and Pere Marquette Charter Township.

Other vacancies include one seat on the Mason County Economic Development Corporation and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, one on the Mason County Road Commission, two each on the Parks and Recreation Commission and Planning Commission, and one each on the Tax Allocation Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.

Three positions are also available on the Community Opioid Steering Committee. The county is seeking a community member with lived experience related to opioid substance use disorder, a community member working in public health or health care who works directly with people with substance use disorder, and a county staff member who works with people with substance use disorder. The three-year terms begin Dec. 1 and run through Nov. 30, 2029.

Appointments will be made between now and Jan. 1.

Those interested in serving should submit a letter of interest identifying the board or commission on which they would like to serve. Letters must be delivered to Mason County Administrator Kaitlyn Szczypka, 304 E. Ludington Ave., Ludington, MI 49431, or emailed to kszczypka@masoncountymi.gov by 4 p.m. Sept. 25.
