LASD board to consider SRO and personnel contracts, new hires

LUDINGTON — Ludington Area School District’s Board of Education is expected to consider a new three-year school resource officer agreement with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office when it meets today, Monday, June 15, along with renewing contracts for dozens of administrative, central office and non-union employees.

The proposed school resource officer agreement would continue dedicated law enforcement coverage for the district. Under the arrangement, Mason County would provide $48,000 annually to support the SRO program at Ludington Area School District. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office SRO provides coverage at Ludington Elementary School, which is in Pere Marquette Township. The Ludington Police Department provides SRO coverage at Ludington High School and OJ DeJonge Middle School, which are located in the city limits.

Also on the agenda is the renewal of 29 employment contracts for the 2026-27 school year, including contracts for 11 administrators, seven central business office employees and 11 non-union staff members.

Administrative contract renewals include JoAnna Story, Mike Hart, Steve Forsberg, Frank Marietta, Greg Pscodna, Brent Gillett, Brian Balding, Abby Schaperkotter, Tim Hansen, Randy Fountain and Jenn Mackey. Central office contract renewals include Tyrone Collins, Caryn Elam, Andy Klevorn, Jessica Castonia, Susie Hovey, Laura Kassanos and Deb Wilsey. Non-union contract renewals include Jen Collins, Carrie Moeggenberg, Bernadine Niemiec-Rosales, Kyle Fiebig, Mark Boon, Dante Vela, Kelly Carlsen, Beth Gunsell, Michelle Kiessel, Trish Forfinski, Kim Sova and Dennis Genson.

The board will also consider several personnel matters, including the hiring of five teachers and acceptance of two coaching resignations and one student aide resignation. Proposed hires include Niki Boerema, Michelle Besson and Erin Gutowski as special education teachers, Katarina Miller as a high school English language arts teacher and Stephen Besson as a high school math teacher.

In addition to personnel matters, trustees are scheduled to hold a public hearing on the district’s proposed 2026-27 budget before the regular meeting. The board is expected to take action on the budget adoption, annual tax rate request and summer tax resolution.

Other agenda items include approval of an $18,358 district phone replacement project and the purchase of 675 iPad keyboard-case combinations and 1,700 iPad cases at a cost of $142,131.25.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the O.J. DeJonge Middle School Media Center, 706 E. Tinkham Ave.
