LUDINGTON — The tug Candice Elise and barge Robert F. Deegan arrived in Ludington Harbor Tuesday afternoon en route to the OxyChem terminal on Pere Marquette Lake.

The tug/barge combination is a frequent visitor to Ludington, serving OxyChem’s Ludington plant.

The Candice Elise, owned by Ashton Marine Co. of North Muskegon, measures 100 feet long, 32 feet wide and has a depth of 14 feet, 8 inches. The vessel was built in 1981 by Modern Marine Power Inc. of Houma, Louisiana, and was originally named Perseverance.

The tug has operated under several names during its history, including Mr. Bill G. in 1983, El Rhino Grande in 1990 and Stephen Dann in 1997 before being renamed Candice Elise in 2015.

Power is provided by two Caterpillar 3512 TA diesel engines producing a combined 2,600 horsepower.

The Robert F. Deegan barge was built in 1968 by Wyatt Industries of Houston, Texas. Owned by USS Great Lakes LLC of New York, the barge measures 225 feet long, 60 feet wide and has a depth of 14 feet.
