SCOTTVILLE — The Michigan Farm Bureau’s FARM Science Lab — part of the Food, Agriculture and Resources in Motion (FARM) Science Program — will visit Mason County Central Upper Elementary School Tuesday, May 5 through Friday, May 8, providing students with hands-on lessons about agriculture, food production and science.
The mobile classroom delivers STEM-based learning — an educational approach focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics — directly to students through interactive, grade-appropriate lessons led by trained educators.
Kindergarten through fifth-grade students will participate in experiential learning modules that explore how food is grown and produced, along with the role agriculture plays in everyday life. Lessons often include topics such as plant science, animal agriculture and agricultural careers.
The FARM Science Program has visited more than 550 schools across Michigan since 2017, reaching more than 79,000 students and nearly 4,000 educators, according to the Michigan Farm Bureau.
The visit will coincide with Community and Family Engagement Agriculture Night on Wednesday, May 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the school.
The agriculture night is a partnership between Mason County Central and Mason County Eastern schools and will provide families and community members an opportunity to engage with agriculture through educational stations, demonstrations and activities focused on farming, food production and natural resources. Local agricultural organizations and partners are expected to participate, offering interactive exhibits and information highlighting the importance of agriculture in Mason County and beyond.
The FARM Science Lab is made possible through support from the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, local Farm Bureau organizations and industry partners.
School officials said the combination of in-school programming and the community agriculture night is intended to strengthen connections between students, families and the region’s agricultural heritage while promoting awareness of career opportunities in the field.
