VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College recently achieved two significant achievements: the reaffirmation of its institutional accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the awarding of initial programmatic accreditation for its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Paramedic program.
On Jan. 13, 2026, the Institutional Actions Council (IAC) of the Higher Learning Commission officially voted to reaffirm the accreditation of WSCC. This college-wide accreditation serves as a formal validation of the institution’s overall quality, integrity, and effectiveness in serving its students and the community.
Following a comprehensive evaluation, the IAC determined that WSCC is eligible to choose between the Open or Standard Pathways for its next accreditation cycle. This successful reaffirmation ensures the college will remain accredited through the 2035-36 academic year.
“Reaffirmation by the HLC with no areas of concern, no follow-up reporting, and no interim monitoring is as strong an outcome as an institution can achieve,” said WSCC president Scott Ward. “This reflects years of disciplined work by our faculty, staff, and trustees, and it affirms that the College is operating with clarity of mission, strong governance, and a sustained focus on student success.”
In addition to the institutional milestone, WSCC’s Emergency Medical Services Paramedic program has been awarded Initial Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). This decision, effective Jan. 16, 2026, followed a rigorous review and recommendation by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Notably, the program was found to be in full compliance with all nationally established standards, with no areas of non-compliance identified during the evaluation.
“Choosing a CAAHEP-accredited program is crucial for students seeking a career in allied health,” noted Dr. Barry S. Eckert, president of CAAHEP. “It ensures that they receive an education that is both comprehensive and relevant to current industry needs. CAAHEP accreditation offers significant advantages for students, graduates, and employers alike. Graduates of CAAHEP-accredited programs are highly sought after by employers, opening doors to enhanced job opportunities and career growth.”
