Ginny Lamen

Virginia “Ginny” Laman, 87, of Ludington, died on Thursday, January 15, 2026. She was born on Sept. 15, 1938 in Kalamazoo, the third daughter of Donald and Thelma Soerheide. As a child she grew up in Spring Lake and graduated from Grand Haven High School because at that time there was no high school in Spring Lake.

She was married to Clancy (Clarence E) Laman in January, 1958 and they had six children: Doug (Cathy), Christy (John) Sniegowski, Roberta (Steve) Tepper, Terry (Karol), Jason (Candace), Joanna (Stevie) Jones, all still alive and raising 24 grandchildren: Jessica, Terrah, Bekah, Adam, Luke, Danielle, Taylor, Olivia, Noah, Joshua, Benjamin, Levi, Sage, Katie, Gabrielle, Blake, Sophia, Chase, Jonas, Perris, Kendra, Psalmn, Reign, Stevie III, Clancy, and 23 great-grandchildren (so far!). Ginny is also survived by her sisters Ann (John) Woods, Connie (Marty) Stohl and sister-in-law Geraldine (Geri) Laman, their children and grandchildren.

Ginny loved Jesus and shared her faith with everyone she met, often referring to the content of two passages of scripture found in Matthew 7:21-23 and 25:31-46, the context of each she would encourage you to read for yourself. Ginny loved music and was blessed with a beautiful, clear voice and an ear for harmonizing, singing throughout her life with such groups as the Sweet Adelines, The Melodiers, The Dune Spooners, and church choir.

It was after her first year of attending Western Michigan University, seeking a degree in psychology, she met the love of her life, Clancy Laman. As the story was told, he threw a record at her at a party to get her attention. They were married a few months later. That ended her college career, but launched a fruitful life of faith, children, adventure and businesses that spanned two states, Michigan and Florida, and included Laman Asphalt & Redi Mix (Ludington, Manistee, Bear Lake), Laman’s Landing Resort on Hamlin Lake and The Bluffs Golf Course in Zolfo Springs, Fla.

Ginny spent the last two years of her life in Ludington, facing a battle against dementia and cancer. While her friends and family will miss her greatly, they find comfort knowing she went joyfully into the arms of Jesus and they will see her again for eternity.

The family will hold a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at Joshua Creek Cemetery, 4354 Co Rd 760, Arcadia, Fla., followed by lunch at Golf Hammock Golf Club, 2222 Golf Hammock Dr, Sebring, Fla. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
