SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — The NRA Foundation has awarded the Fin & Feather Club of Mason County a community grant to expand firearm safety, hunting and marksmanship education.
The funding will support several community programs aimed at promoting firearm safety, responsible ownership and shooting skills among children and adults.
Planned programs include gun accident prevention education for elementary-age children, hunter safety courses, firearm education classes for youth and women, and crime prevention and personal safety training for adults.
The club will offer instruction through established programs including the Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program, Hunter Safety Education and Refuse To Be A Victim, a personal safety program. The programs provide structured instruction intended to help participants develop safety awareness and responsible firearm practices.
The initiatives also are intended to provide parents and community organizations with resources for discussing firearm safety with children while increasing personal safety awareness among adults.
The Fin & Feather Club offers Hunter Safety Education courses, women’s pistol classes and concealed carry training. The club also is adding Women on Target, a program intended to introduce more women to shooting sports and firearm safety.
The programs are part of an ongoing effort to increase participation by youth and women in shooting sports while emphasizing education and safety.
The National Rifle Association of America was founded in 1871 and provides firearm education and training while advocating on issues affecting gun owners.
The NRA Foundation, established in 1990, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides grants supporting firearm safety, education, marksmanship and other programs. Its grants can be used for equipment, training materials and program development at the local, state and national levels.
Friends of NRA, a volunteer fundraising program supporting the foundation, raises money through events, with proceeds used to fund programs and grants around the country.
The Fin & Feather Club of Mason County offers programs for men, women and youth interested in hunting, shooting sports, firearm safety and personal protection.
