Ludington school board terminates elementary principal’s employment

Ludington Elementary School

LUDINGTON — The Ludington Area School District Board of Education unanimously voted Monday to terminate the employment of Ludington Elementary School Principal Katie Eisinger following an investigation into issues involving seclusion and restraint practices.

The decision was made during the board’s regular meeting June 15.

MCP has been told that the termination stemmed from an incident of Eisenger’s alleged handling of a student.

Eisinger had been placed on paid administrative leave on Feb. 27 while the district conducted its review.

According to the board’s action, Eisinger’s employment was terminated for violations of Board Policies 1613 and 5630.01, Michigan Code of Educational Ethics Principles 1(A)(3), 1(A)(5) and 3(A)(6), Section 1307(H) of the Michigan Revised School Code, and paragraphs 1 and 3 of her employment contract.

The board’s action was a termination and was not part of a severance or separation agreement.

According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the sheriff’s office had been called to investigate, as required by law, but did not find any criminal actions.

Under her contract, Eisinger was employed as principal of Ludington Elementary School under a two-year agreement running from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2027. The contract states administrators may be terminated during the term of their employment for misconduct, incompetency, material breach of contract or other causes that are not arbitrary or capricious.

“There is no severance agreement or separation agreement,” Interim Superintendent Mary Marshall stated to MCP.

Paragraph 1 of the contract requires the administrator to perform all duties and responsibilities assigned by the board and superintendent, while Paragraph 3 requires the administrator to faithfully perform assigned duties and comply with board and superintendent directives, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
No additional details about the investigation were released during the meeting.

The board’s vote ends Eisinger’s employment with the district effective immediately.
