Adam Oster

LUDINGTON — Mason County District Library will host Adam Oster, community engagement librarian for the Library of Michigan, on Monday, May 19 at 6 p.m. at the Ludington library branch, 217 E. Ludington Ave.

Oster’s presentation will examine the role public libraries have played in Michigan communities from the territorial period through the modern era. Topics will include the leadership of the Michigan State Library, now known as the Library of Michigan; the expansion of Carnegie libraries; the growth of community-funded library systems; and the continuing role of libraries in education and civic life.

According to the library, the program will explore how Michigan libraries have adapted to changing societal needs while remaining important public resources.

The presentation is the first in a series of events Mason County District Library plans to host this summer in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Additional information is available at MCDLibrary.org.
