Driver arrested for OWI after speeding past police helping motorist.

BRANCH TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old Ludington man was arrested for operating while intoxicated Sunday, July 24, shortly after 2:30 a.m. after not slowing down or moving over for police helping a semi truck driver whose vehicle was broken down roadside on US 10 near Benson Road, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a Michigan State Police trooper were on a motorist assist with a disabled semi truck when the suspect vehicle approached from behind,” said Sheriff Cole. “An MCSO deputy heard the suspect vehicle approaching at high speed and noticed the vehicle was not slowing down nor moving over. The deputy activated a flashing blue light affixed to his vest. However, the vehicle failed to move over and passed by within 3 feet of the officers. He was stopped down the road and arrested for OWI.”
