LUDINGTON — A 20-year-old Ludington man who pleaded guilty Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 in 51st Circuit Court to cocaine possession less than 25 grams and fourth-offense habitual offender faces serving nine months up front of a one-year discretionary jail term.
Valentine Alejandro Segura, of 611 E. Dowland St., was arrested in April of this year at his home by the multi-jurisdiction State, Sheriffs, Chiefs Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT) on the felony charge of cocaine possession less than 25 grams, as well as a misdemeanor of marijuana possession, and fourth-offense habitual offender.
Segura was on parole at the time of his offense, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola. He has been lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $15,000 cash/surety bond.
Due to his habitual offender status, Segura’s maximum possible term was elevated to 15 years, Spaniola said.
Segura was convicted in Oceana County’s 27th Circuit Court in January of 2016 to concurrent prison terms of 18 months to four years and 18 months to five years for convictions of third-degree fleeing police and second-degree home invasion.
Segura was also sentenced in Mason County in April of 2016 to serve nine months in jail concurrently to his prison term for convictions of larceny in a building and possession with intent to deliver marijuana.
In exchange for his guilty plea Tuesday to the cocaine possession charge and the habitual offender designation, the marijuana possession charge was dismissed. His jail term will run consecutively to any parole violation sanctions he receives, Spaniola said.
Segura testified before Judge Suan K. Sniegowski Tuesday that he was in possession of cocaine residue when he was arrested.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 5 at 1:15 p.m.
