LUDINGTON — A 29-year-old Baldwin man initially facing 10 criminal charges pleaded guilty to five charges during a final conference hearing Tuesday, April 4, in 51st Circuit Court.

Mark Edward Dekle, of 8327 W. Hollyhock Ave., faces serving nine months in jail of a one-year discretionary jail term after pleading guilty to two felony counts of resisting/assaulting/obstructing police; one felony count of interfering with electronic communications, and two misdemeanors of second-offense domestic violence and operating while intoxicated (OWI).

Dekle was arrested last January by Michigan State Police. He faced felony charges of threatening to kill or injure a person and fourth-degree fleeing police, which were dismissed in 79th District Court during his preliminary exam.

In a plea agreement in circuit court Tuesday, felony charges of attempted home invasion and resisting/assaulting/obstructing police and a misdemeanor of reckless driving were dismissed.

Dekle must complete a substance abuse evaluation, and he will be placed on Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring (SCRAM) for 90 days after his release from jail, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola.

“The phone got broke,” Dekle told Judge Susan K. Sniegowski during his testimony regarding the interfering with electronic communications charge.

“When they pulled me over, they gave me instructions, and I didn’t follow their instructions,” he told the judge regarding the resisting arrest charges.

Spaniola said Dekle’s blood alcohol content was .252.

Sentencing is set for May 30 at 1:15 p.m.
