Meeting will discuss Fourth Ward neighborhood improvements.

LUDINGTON — Neighbor to Neighbor will hold an information meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 15 to discuss the program’s next neighborhood improvement project; the next targeted area for improvement is the Fourth Ward.

The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at Pere Marquette Early Childhood Center, 1115 S Madison St. and is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about Neighbor to Neighbor.

Habitat for Humanity of Mason County and Pennies From Heaven Foundation will share the story behind the program. Interested homeowners will learn how they can participate.

Habitat for Humanity of Mason County began to revamp its efforts with Neighborhood Revitalization in 2015, but the programming was only as successful as Habitat’s staffing capacity would allow.  Through the work of the Mason County Housing Task Force, a partnership was formed between Habitat and the Pennies From Heaven Foundation to repair neighborhoods in local communities, and the Neighbor to Neighbor volunteer initiative was created. The aim is to help clean up blighted homes in our community by providing homeowners in need with a helping hand. Neighbor to Neighbor works to establish homeowner and neighborhood pride, while giving property values a boost.

Since launching this program in July 2016, the Neighbor to Neighbor Initiative has completed two neighborhoods in Mason County, one in Ludington near the intersection of William and Court streets and one in Scottville on South Reinberg Avenue. Projects have included removing and improving siding, repairing roofs, painting houses, and basic landscaping to name a few.
