WSCC honor society to hold food drive.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP – The holiday season is a time of togetherness and cheer, but for some high school students in our area, it can also be a time of hunger.

West Shore Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honors society for two-year college students, is holding a food drive to make sure that area high schoolers and their families don’t go hungry during the holiday break.

From Monday, November 16 to Friday, December 11, PTK members will be collecting non-perishable food items across West Shore’s campus and at the Ludington branch of the Mason County District Library.

High-protein items like peanut butter and canned meat are the most needed items at food pantries, as are pasta, canned fruit, soup, and beans.

The donations will be distributed to Ludington, Mason County Central, and Mason County Eastern High Schools, all of whom have food pantries that need restocking.

According to Feeding America, 4,200 people in Mason County are food insecure, meaning they sometimes lack access to food.
