PENTWATER — An 18-year-old Mason County man was arrested by the Pentwater Police Department after jumping from his vehicle during a high-speed chase Monday afternoon, Sept. 21.
The suspect was wanted for a burglary that had just occurred in Pentwater Township.
“Acting on a ‘be on the lookout’ (BOL) broadcast of a burglary in progress, officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle on Lowell Street near Mears Street,” according PPD’s Facebook page.“The suspect vehicle immediately sped up, reaching speeds in excess of 60 mph. Following a short pursuit, the suspect jumped from the moving vehicle in the 100 block of East Fourth Street. The vehicle came to rest after striking a stop sign at Fourth and Hancock.
“The suspect was located a short distance away hiding in a stairwell at 2:54 p.m. A search of the suspect vehicle uncovered a stolen handgun, illegal drugs, and burglary tools. Pentwater Police are coordinating their investigation with Michigan State Police who are investigating the reported burglary which occurred in Pentwater Township.
“Pentwater Public Schools were locked down as a precautionary measure while law enforcement officers searched for the suspect.
“The suspect was transported to the Oceana County Jail where he was lodged for fleeing and eluding; resisting and opposing a police officer; possession of burglary tools; and violation of the Public Health Code.
“Pentwater Police were assisted by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Mason County Sheriff’s Canine, and the Michigan State Police.”
