GRANT TWP. — A piece of debris nearly severed a 49-year-old Muskegon man’s leg Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2:30 p.m. after a group of men on private property in the Morton/Modjeski roads area shot a 55-gallon metal barrel which contained two pounds of Tannerite with a rifle, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The barrel splintered into several jagged pieces, and one piece travelled over 150 feet, striking the man who was seated behind a tree with his leg exposed.

In a separate incident, a 32-year-old Free Soil woman faces numerous charges following her arrest Sunday, Sept. 13, at 7:29 a.m. at a residence in the 1900 block of East Fountain Road in Sherman Township after she allegedly spit on Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies while telling them she had Hepatitis C.

A 911 call was made after she reportedly assaulted a male in the home. She then fought with deputies during her arrest, according to Cole.

The woman is being charged with two counts of resisting and opposing police; one count of felony assault on an officer; domestic violence; child endangerment; evidence tampering and synthetic narcotic use, Cole said.
