Squires named Michigan Chiropractor of the Year.

DETROIT — Scottville chiropractor Dr. Lewis G. Squires recently received the Michigan Association of Chiropractors’ (MAC) Chiropractor of the Year Award at the MAC Fall 2019 Convention & Exhibition in Detroit. Dr. Squires received the award “in appreciation for valuable leadership, service, and dedication above and beyond the call of duty to the chiropractic profession,” largely for his efforts to pass H.R. 3654, the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2019, federal legislation that would expand coverage of chiropractic care in Medicare.

“Dr. Squires’ work as a key member of the American Chiropractic Association’s legislative efforts to pass meaningful Medicare legislation has been truly inspiring,” said MAC Executive Director Kristine Dowell. “Coupled with his leadership on the state level, Dr. Squires is an incredible asset to the chiropractic profession, and I want to congratulate him on this tremendous honor.”

A longtime member of the MAC Board of Directors, Dr. Squires also serves on the MAC Government Relations and Leadership committees. Along with his duties with the MAC, he serves as the state of Michigan’s Alternate Delegate to the American Chiropractic Association and as the chair of the ACA Political Action Committee (ACA-PAC). He regularly advocates for non-drug pain management, full inclusion in Medicare, and increased access to chiropractic care in the Veterans and TRICARE health systems to members of Congress.

Squires is also involved with the Palmer College of Chiropractic Alumni Association, and won the association’s Distinguished Service Award in 2018. He is a Fellow in the Palmer Academy, a former President of the Michigan Palmer International Alumni Association, and a Michigan Palmer International Alumni Association Outstanding Alumni President Award winner.

Dr. Squires is also a two-time appointee to the Michigan Board of Chiropractic, the State of Michigan body charged with overseeing the practice of chiropractic in our state. He was first appointed to the Board by former Governor Rick Snyder in 2012 and re-appointed in 2016 to a term ending December 31, 2020. A member of the Mason County Board of Commissioners, Dr. Squires’ civic involvement led to him being the recipient of the MAC’s inaugural Community Champion Award, given “in recognition and appreciation of [his] unselfish commitment to serving others and [his] community,” in 2012. He has also received the MAC’s “Pioneer Award,” “in appreciation for a lifetime of loyalty, dedication and commitment to the chiropractic profession and the principles of the MAC.”
