AMBER TOWNSHIP — A 25-year-old Walkerville woman was killed early this morning, Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, after she was struck by a car while walking along US 10/31. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, emergency personnel were called to the scene, west of Dennis Road, at 3:08 a.m.

Cole said the woman was walking eastbound on the roadway and was struck by an eastbound 2004 KIA passenger vehicle. The KIA was traveling in the right lane and was being driven by a 51-year-old Branch man, who was uninjured in the incident.

His passenger, a 34 year-old Branch woman, was treated at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Emergency units responding to the scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department and Life EMS.

At this time, deputies are unsure why the female was walking in the roadway, Cole said. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been involved on behalf of the driver of the vehicle and toxicology tests are pending on the deceased.  The crash remains under investigation.

This is the second fatal traffic crash to have occurred in that area in just over a week.
