LUDINGTON — Mason County sheriff’s deputies captured a 27-year-old Texas man wanted on several violent charges Thursday, Jan. 4, and he is currently being held in the Mason County Jail awaiting extradition, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“On Jan. 3, 2018, deputies with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by members of the Bay City Texas Police Department and advised of a wanted fugitive from Texas that was believed to be in the Mason County area,” stated Cole.

“On Jan. 4, 2018 at 12:37 p.m., MCSO deputies spotted the suspect vehicle traveling on US 10 in the area of Meyers Road. A ‘felony’ stop was conducted on the vehicle after learning the wanted person may have been armed with a handgun. No handgun was found.

“A 27-year-old Van Vleck, Texas man was arrested without incident. He is currently being held in the Mason County Jail on a local charge of furnishing false information to a police officer.”

The suspect is also wanted in Texas on charges of aggravated robbery (two counts); family violence; unlawful restraint; and assault with a deadly weapon.

“Once the local charge is cleared, extradition proceedings will begin to return the individual back to the authorities in Texas,” the sheriff said.

The Ludington Police Department assisted deputies with the traffic stop.
