Love Ludington weekend: world record attempt, Lakestride, pirates and a new museum.

LUDINGTON — There will be much to do this weekend as the area celebrates the Love Ludington Weekend.

The first event of the weekend will be the Lakestride 1 mile fun run at 6 p.m. tonight, June 9. The free run begins at 6 p.m. at the west end of Ludington Avenue.

The 37th annual Lakestride Half-Marathon, 10K, and 5K take place Saturday morning at 8 a.m. in the 600 block of North Lakeshore Drive. The 13.1 mile half marathon takes runners into the Ludington State Park and along the shoreline on M-116. Register here.

At noon registration begins for the Be Someone’s Angel event, which is an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most sand angels created simultaneously. The event takes place at Stearns Park beginning at 1 p.m. and is a fund raiser for Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital’s Cancer Service Center Patient Assistance Fund. Read more details here.

The current world record of 352 is held by Keep Wales Tidy (UK) in Pembrokeshire, Wales, United Kingdom, set in 2015. Local organizers who hoping for up to 5,000 people at Ludington’s public beach. The major sponsor for the event is West Shore Bank.

Later that afternoon, the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum will open its doors to the public at 6 p.m. A special ceremony begins at 4 p.m. See more details here.

Saturday’s events will wrap up with the annual Pirates of the Caribbean Shoreline Cruise on the S.S. Badger. Participants are being encouraged to dress in pirate garb for the cruise from 9 to 11 p.m. Boarding begins at 8:30 p.m. More details here.
