AMBER TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has issued a press release with more details about the shooting incident that took place Tuesday evening at Spartan West Bowling Center, 2253 W. US 10-31. MCP interviewed Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole immediately following the incident Tuesday and posted a story. The press release information is consistent with the information that the sheriff provided in the previous story.

In the press release, Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole states: “At 4:51 p.m. on May 23, 2017, law enforcement units were dispatched to the 2200 block of West US-10 in Mason County’s Amber Township regarding a ‘disturbance’.  During the original 911 call the caller reported hearing ‘shots being fired and people running’ from the business.

“The first arriving units, a Mason County deputy and Michigan State Police trooper, established the alleged shooter had fled from the business, south into a wooded area.  A perimeter was set up on the property by additional responding units and a search began for the suspect and any possible victims.

“During the search a pistol was recovered behind the business and a second pistol was recovered in a vehicle in the parking lot.  Within 15 minutes of the original call, the person who allegedly fired rounds was located by deputies and troopers.  He was taken into custody without incident.

“No one was injured during the event and the alleged suspect was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for a mental evaluation.  His name is not being released at this time pending a review of the case by the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office.

Also assisting on scene was Scottville Police Department.
