Jan Sanders

June 3, 1951 – June 14, 2025

Janet “Jan” Marie Sanders, 74, of Ludington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, surrounded by the ones she loved.

Born and raised in Ludington, Jan was the daughter of Robert and Margaret Erickson and a proud graduate of Ludington High School’s class of ’69. She later earned her nursing degree from West Shore Community College and spent many years caring for others as a charge nurse, assistant drector of nursing and finally director of nursing at Oakview Medical Care Facility.

In 1974, she married George Sanders—the love of her life. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with daughters, music, sunsets, and years of love and laughter. Jan was a fiercely devoted mother, and later, the most adoring and proud “Nonnie” to her granddaughters, Rowan and Charlie. They were her heart. She loved them more than life itself—and they knew it.

She loved being by the water whether it was Ludington or her winter escapes to Siesta Key, where she could watch the waves from sunrise to sunset. Jan loved being outside, a good thunderstorm, bird watching, and great music. She also had a deep appreciation for art and beauty.

Jan is survived by her husband, George Sanders; her daughters, Jordan Sanders and Whitney (Logan) Zillmer; and her treasured granddaughters, Rowan and Charlie Zillmer. She also leaves behind her brothers, Denny (Barb) Erickson, Bob (Cheryl) Erickson, Jerry (Linda) Erickson, and Jon (Becky) Ericson; her sisters, Sara (Scott) Kleon and Lisa (Morgan) Boggs; sister-in-law Laurie Erickson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She’s now reunited with her parents, Robert and Margaret Erickson, and her brother, Greg—probably watching the beautiful thunderstorms rolling over Lake Michigan.

In memory of Jan, donations can be made to support pancreatic cancer research at www.pancan.org.
