Ronald Sorensen

Ronald Allen Sorensen, 82, of Custer peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, in Ludington.

Ron was born at home on September 20, 1942, the second of six children born to Anker and Bernice Sorensen. He attended St. Mary’s School in Riverton Township before transferring to Scottville High School. Ronald left high school during his junior year to enlist in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Upon returning home from the service, Ron worked for Nielsen Ironworks in Racine, Wis. followed by Stokely USA in Scottville until his retirement.

Ron loved spending time on the family farm south of Custer. He could often be found in one of the fields on his tractor or working the land using either his team of mules or his team of draft horses. In his later years, he enjoyed roaming around Mason County visiting friends, eating at his favorite restaurants, attending tractor or horse pulls, and just sitting at home watching RFDTV or big-time wrestling. Ron was always up for a good laugh and never hesitated to display his quick-witted humor to anyone within earshot. He looked forward to deer hunting each year and whether it was in Michigan or Wisconsin, he enjoyed taking advantage of Opening Day in each state with his cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ron also had a great love for music and would spend every Thursday night at the VFW Gold Bar Post 5096 in Custer where he was a lifetime member.

Ronald married the love of his life, Judith Standish on February 5, 1977, at Bachelor Evangelical Church near Round Lake. They enjoyed nearly 38 years together before Judy passed away in 2015.

In addition to his wife, Ronald was preceded in death by his two infant children Ronald Jr. and Rhonda; his parents Anker and Bernice; his brother Ivan; brothers-in-law Kenneth Bailey and Mason (Mutt) Tyndall; his nephew Robert (Bobby) Stimes; niece Shawn (Rosencrans) Skomski; and great-nephew Matthew Deeter.

He is survived by his sisters Delores (Tim) Timmons, Janis Bailey, Myrtle Tyndall, and Kathleen Rosencrans; eight nieces and nephews, and numerous great- and great–great nieces and nephews who all lovingly know him simply as “Uncle” or “Big Unc”.

Funeral services will be held for Ronald at noon on Monday, May 19 at Wyman Funeral & Cremation Services – Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville.  Friends may visit with his family starting at 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.  Ronald will be laid to rest with full military honors at Tallman Cemetery next to his beloved wife Judith.

Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Ron are asked to please consider the Custer VFW Gold Bar Post 5096.

In honor of our beloved brother and uncle, those attending should feel free to wear their favorite bib overalls or red, white, and blue as he was so proud to be both a farmer and a veteran.
