SUMMIT TOWNSHIP — A 25-year-old Evert, Mich. man was arrested early Monday morning, Sept. 21, following a crime spree that involved attempting to kick in a residential door at one location; wielding a knife at the US 31 rest area; and fighting with Mason County sheriff’s deputies, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
The attempted breaking and entering was reported at 12:43 a.m. in the 1900 block of South Lenz Road in Pere Marquette Township.
“The complainant reported an unknown male attempted to kick in their door,” said Sheriff Cole. “Deputies arrived and found evidence supporting the attempted break-in. However, the suspect had fled the area. Deputies canvassed the area, but he was not located at that time.
“At 5:30 a.m., a subject called 911, reporting a male, matching that of the suspect, was acting suspiciously and looking in vehicles at the US 31 rest area in Summit Township.
“Deputies arrived at the rest area and found a person matching that of the person suspected in the attempted home invasion. The suspect was sitting on the ground at the entrance to the restroom area holding a knife. Deputies were able to talk the suspect into putting the knife on the ground. However, when deputies approached him, he grabbed the knife and was tackled to the ground,” said Cole.
“The suspect actively fought with deputies, who were able to get the knife away from him and arrest him.”
The suspect was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted home invasion and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police. He remains lodged in the Mason County Jail.
