SCOTTVILLE — Six candidates are seeking four seats on the Mason County Central Schools Board of Education in the Nov. 3 general election.
The candidates are Margaret Greiner, Steven A. Griswold, Gena Nelson, Barry Pleiness, Stephanie Stakenas and Darrell Storvik.
Griswold, Nelson, Pleiness and Storvik are incumbents. Their current terms expire at the end of 2026 and all four are seeking re-election.
Greiner and Stakenas are challenging for seats on the board. Both also sought election to the MCC board during the Nov. 5, 2024 general election as write-in candidates but were not elected.
In the 2024 election, three board seats were available. Nicole Sherretz received 2,165 votes and Nicole Birkett received 2,086 votes. Among the write-in candidates, Oscar Davila received 415 votes, Stakenas received 361 and Greiner received 126. Davila won the third available seat.
Mason County Press reported prior to the 2024 election that Stakenas was among the declared write-in candidates seeking a seat on the board.
For the 2026 election, voters may select up to four candidates. The four candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to four-year terms.
Mason County Central Board of Education members are elected at large on a nonpartisan basis. The seven-member board has staggered terms, with four seats up for election in 2026 and the remaining three seats scheduled to expire in 2028.
