LUDINGTON — A 19-year-old Ludington man was arrested Saturday morning following an investigation into a home invasion, attempted break-ins and a stolen vehicle.
Ludington Police Department officers responded about 6:43 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, to a report of a completed breaking and entering at a residence in the 400 block of North Harrison Street.
During the investigation, officers determined the same man had also unsuccessfully attempted to enter residences in the 300 block of East Stray Street and the 500 block of North Delia Street.
“Surveillance footage provided by residents helped officers identify the suspect as a 19-year-old Ludington man,” Police Chief Christopher Jones said.
While police were searching for the suspect, a person living in the 300 block of North Rowe Street reported his vehicle had been stolen.
Officers located and detained the suspect and took him to the Ludington Police Department for questioning. Jones said the man admitted involvement in the breaking and entering, attempted break-ins and vehicle theft.
The suspect was lodged at the Mason County Jail.
Officers continued searching the area and recovered the stolen vehicle, which was returned to its owner. Police subsequently executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of North Lavinia Street and recovered property stolen during the initial home invasion. The property was returned to its owners.
“The successful identification and apprehension of the suspect, along with the recovery of stolen property, was made possible through the prompt cooperation of area residents and the coordinated efforts of responding officers,” Jones said.
The suspect faces charges including home invasion, unauthorized driving away of an automobile and prowling.
