VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The West Shore Community College Board of Trustees will consider a resolution tied to state funding and discuss the college’s facilities master plan when it meets Monday, Sept. 21.
The board meeting begins at 4 p.m. in the John M. Eaton Board Room at West Shore Community College.
Under new business, trustees will consider adopting the college’s Local Strategic Value, or “Best Practices,” Resolution required under Section 230 of Michigan Public Act 25 of 2026.
The state’s fiscal year 2026-2027 education appropriations legislation includes $2.925 million for West Shore Community College. A portion of community college performance funding is based on demonstrating “local strategic value.” To qualify, the board must certify that the college meets at least four of five standards in each of three categories: economic development and business or industry partnerships, educational partnerships and community services.
The proposed resolution states WSCC meets or exceeds the required standards.
Examples cited under economic development include partnerships with health care providers and manufacturers, customized training for area businesses, support for entrepreneurship and participation in regional workforce and economic development organizations. The college also cites its manufacturing laboratory, nursing simulation equipment and workforce training programs.
Under educational partnerships, West Shore identifies dual enrollment partnerships with 14 school districts, its relationship with the West Shore Educational Service District, early college programs, College for Kids and other programs aimed at helping students transition from high school to college. The resolution also identifies articulation and transfer agreements with several four-year colleges and universities.
Community service examples include continuing education programs, the HumanKind series, performing arts events, musical ensembles, the William M. Anderson Library, Manierre Dawson Gallery, recreation center, West Shore Ice Arena and other facilities and programs available to the public.
If approved, the resolution will be submitted to the State Budget Office by Oct. 15.
Trustees will also discuss the college’s facilities master plan with Design Collaborative. The meeting packet lists the discussion as an agenda item but does not include additional material outlining potential projects or recommendations associated with the plan.
