LUDINGTON — Two Ludington High School seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Gabriel Grierson
Gabriel Grierson and Steele Stowe were among 535 Michigan students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Semifinalists represent approximately the top 1% of high school seniors nationwide. Gabriel is the son of Dr. Joe and Kathy Grierson and Steele is the son of Jon and Stephanie Stowe.

Both students also are active in Ludington High School athletics and other extracurricular activities. Grierson competes in cross country and track, while Stowe participates in soccer and basketball.
More than 1.2 million students nationwide entered the National Merit Scholarship competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test during their junior year. Semifinalists include students who earned some of the highest qualifying scores in their respective states.
Grierson and Stowe are now eligible to advance to finalist status. The application process includes an essay, an endorsement from school officials and qualifying SAT scores.
Finalists will compete for 6,700 National Merit Scholarships. Scholarship awards are scheduled to begin in April 2027.
