LUDINGTON — A 55-year-old man was recently sentenced in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court to one year in jail for a conviction of assault with a dangerous weapon and fourth-offense habitual offender.

Mark Edmund Scheuer pleaded “guilty but mentally ill” to the charge, June 18, according to court records.

Judge Susan K. Sniegowski also ordered five years probation and $398 in fines and costs. He received credit for 663 days served in jail, court records show.

Scheuer was sentenced Feb. 4, 2020 to concurrent prison terms of two-and-a-half to 10 years and two-and-a-half to eight years for convictions of assault with a weapon and firearms possession by a felon. He pleaded no contest to both charges Dec. 10, 2019. He was also convicted of third-offense habitual offender in both files.

He was sentenced to one year and four months to two and a half years for a Manistee County conviction of attempted possession of weapons by a felon in 2002, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records. He was sentenced in 1992 in Montmorency County to two to 10 years in prison for a conviction of breaking and entering a building with intent.

He also has a prior conviction of carrying a concealed weapon in 2014.
