Notice of Sheriff Vacancy and Request for Applicants to fill Vacancy

Effective October 31, 2026, Mason County will have an opening to fill the remainder of the term of office for the Mason County Sheriff.  The term ends December 31, 2028.

General Duties:

Law Enforcement: Enforcing state laws and maintaining peace within the county.

Jail Operations: Maintaining and administering the county jail and housing inmates.

Court Services: Serving court orders, writs, and processes.

See Chapter 51 of the Michigan Compiled Laws, Revised Statutes of 1846 for a complete listing of all duties.

Law enforcement experience preferred.

Interested applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, resume, and three letters of reference no later than 5 p.m., October 30, 2026, to the Mason County Clerk office or email them to clerk@masoncountymi.gov.
