DES MOINES, Iowa — For the first time in Flipstar Gymnastics history, two athletes represented the Ludington-based program at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, with both bringing home multiple medals from the national competition in Des Moines, Iowa.
Noah Moul and Abby Dodson qualified for the Junior Olympic Games after finishing among the top 10 gymnasts nationally in their respective levels at the AAU National Championships in June. Colton Carter also qualified for the national team but did not compete.
Moul turned in an outstanding performance in the Boys 4X4 Level 1 preliminary competition, earning podium finishes in every event. He claimed the silver medal on bars and bronze medals on vault, support/circles and floor exercise. His all-around score of 37.625 earned him the silver medal.
His scores of 9.575 on bars and 9.5 on floor exercise ranked among the top 10 across all age groups in his level, qualifying him for the event finals. In the finals, Moul earned a bronze medal on bars and finished fourth on floor exercise.
Competing in the Xcel Platinum division, Dodson also posted a strong performance, placing in the top 10 on every event. She finished fourth on balance beam, fifth on floor exercise, eighth on uneven bars and ninth on vault, earning an eighth-place all-around finish.
According to Flipstar Team Head Coach and co-owner Aimee Goff, both gymnasts were pleased with their performances after putting in extra practice time to prepare for the national competition.
“We couldn’t be more proud of these two Flipstar gymnasts,” Goff said. “Both of them were very happy with their performances and the experience of attending this event. They have both worked very hard, even coming in for extra practices, to be sure they kept their routines competition ready for this event. We want to thank all of the family and community members as well as local businesses that donated funds to help with all of the costs for these two to attend these Junior Olympic Games.”
