LUDINGTON — A 34-year-old woman was sentenced in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court to five to 50 years in prison for an armed robbery conviction Tuesday, June 23.

Tresa Brianna Anderson was also sentenced by Judge Susan K. Sniegowski to concurrent terms of two years for felony firearm; three to 50 years for conspiracy to commit armed robbery; two years for a second felony firearm conviction; and three to 50 years for carrying a concealed weapon.

Anderson robbed a woman at gunpoint, and co-defendant Rojelio Cody Yates, 37, faces 10 charges in connection to the crime. Anderson pleaded guilty to the charges March 21.

Yates is charged with two counts of armed robbery, four counts of second-offense felony firearms, second-degree home invasion, firearms larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Yates was on parole at the time of the alleged robbery, which occurred March 20 in the City of Ludington, said Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Beth Hand.

The female victim, who was approximately 30 years old at the time, was not injured, said Hand.

Anderson was sentenced to prison in Oceana County’s 27th Circuit Court in 2018 for stealing her grandmother’s checks to get drug money. She was sentenced to one year and one day to a maximum of 14 years in prison for a forgery conviction.

Anderson was also sentenced Tuesday to 423 days in jail with credit for 423 days served for a methamphetamine possession conviction in a separate case. Yates is also charged with meth possession in a separate criminal file.

Yates

Hand said Anderson has a lengthy criminal record including five prior felony convictions and five prior misdemeanors.

Yates’ criminal history in Mason County dates back 20 years, according to court records. Since 2005, he has served numerous jail and prison terms for home invasion, larceny from a motor vehicle, assault with intent to rob while armed, felony firearm, assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, methamphetamine possession and carrying a concealed weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in court, Sept. 1, for a trial conference and is lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $500,000 bond, according to court records.

An armed robbery conviction in Michigan is punishable by up to life in prison.
