The Mason County Promise Zone is partnering with the Mason County District Library and West Shore Community College Student Services to provide free college access support sessions throughout the summer.
The monthly drop-in sessions are designed to help students, families and adult learners navigate the college enrollment process, understand financial aid opportunities and plan for post-secondary education.
Many Mason County residents may be eligible to pursue their first associate degree tuition-free through programs such as the Mason County Promise, Michigan Community College Guarantee and Michigan Reconnect. Organizers say many residents remain unaware of the affordability of higher education and the long-term benefits of earning a college credential.
“Whether a rising high school senior, a recent graduate, an adult looking to obtain a first college credential, or a family member seeking to support a college student, free assistance will be available at every stage of the college access process,” organizers said.
Promise Zone staff, post-secondary advisors and WSCC academic advisors will be available to answer questions, help interpret college and financial aid communications, and assist with enrollment steps.
The first session will be held Wednesday, June 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ludington Library, 217 E. Ludington Ave. Additional sessions will take place on the second Wednesday of July and August.
Sessions at the Scottville Library, 204 E. Main St., will begin Wednesday, June 17, and continue on the third Wednesday of July and August.
Scheduled dates include:
• Ludington Library: June 10, July 8 and Aug. 12.
• Scottville Library: June 17, July 15 and Aug. 19.
Current college students interested in transferring to another Michigan college are also encouraged to attend.
