LUDINGTON — The articulated tug/barge Candice Elise/Robert F. Deegan arrived at Ludington harbor Sunday morning, heading to the Oxy Ludington plant on Pere Marquette Lake. The ATB docked on the west slip of the property, likely waiting in line for the tanker MV Prime, which is expected early Sunday evening. The Candice Elise/Deegan and Prime are the two vessels currently picking up calcium chloride from the Ludington plant.
The Candice Elise is 100 feet long, 32 feet wide and has a depth of 14 feet, 8 inches. It is owned by Ashton Marine Co. of North Muskegon, Michigan (ashtontugs.com). The tug was built in 1981 as Perseverance by Modern Marine Power Inc. in Houma, Louisiana. It was renamed Mr. Bill G. in 1983, El Rhino Grande in 1990, Stephen Dann in 1997 and Candice Elise in 2015.
Its propulsion system consists of two Caterpillar 3512 TA diesel engines rated at 2,600 horsepower.
The Robert F. Deegan was built in 1968 by Wyatt Industries in Houston, Texas. The barge is 225 feet long, 60 feet wide and has a depth of 14 feet. It is owned by USS Great Lakes LLC of New York.
The tug Sarah Andrie also is moored on the west slip awaiting to assist Prime with docking.
Prime is scheduled to arrive about 5:40 p.m.
