FARWELL — The Mason County Central junior varsity softball team split a doubleheader with Farwell on Thursday, falling 11-8 in the opener before rebounding for an 11-9 win in the nightcap.

MCC bounced back in the second game behind a strong offensive effort to earn the split.

Brooke Hawke pitched four innings for the Spartans, allowing nine hits and five earned runs while striking out four and walking two.

DeLeon paced the offense with two doubles, a walk, three RBIs and a run scored. Cerka doubled, walked, stole a base, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Lemire added a hit, walk, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Shatova had a single, was hit by a pitch, stole a base, drove in a run and scored.

Miller walked twice, stole a base and scored a run. Hawke drew two walks and scored twice, Naomi Albaugh contributed a hit, RBI and run scored, and Nead added a hit and scored once.

“The girls played two decent ball games against another good ball team,” MCC coach Jeanne Miller said. “We are thankful our offense keeps us in ball games. We just need to clean up some defensive miscues and we come out with a win in some of these close games.”

MCC is now 14-6 overall and will travel to St. Mary’s Field in Custer  for a doubleheader Monday against Mason County Eastern beginning at 4:15 p.m.
