LUDINGTON — The Ludington junior varsity softball team swept Montague Tuesday night at Oriole Field, defeating the Wildcats 9-8 in Game 1 and 17-9 in Game 2.
Rayne Holtrust started in the circle for the Orioles in the opener, pitching two innings with one strikeout and four walks. Sarah Benz came on in relief and finished the game, recording one strikeout and four walks.
Offensively for Ludington in Game 1, Mayra Martinez went 1-for-1 with a double and a walk, while Holtrust finished 1-for-2 with a double.
In Game 2, Benz started in the circle before Martinez came on in relief to finish the game.
At the plate for the Orioles, Martinez went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk. Holtrust was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Makenzie Riley finished 2-for-2 with an RBI. Riley Arekelet went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Vivian Terryn was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Peyton Greene added a 2-for-3 performance.
“Today was a good day for these girls on the field,” Ludington coach Maggie Bates said. “We hit the ball well and ran the bases smart. They brought everything we have been working on together today and executed it all well. I’m proud of the way they played tonight.”
