County commission to consider senior funding at monthly meeting

May 8, 2026

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Board of Commissioners will consider certifying a 2026 senior services millage levy and approving a senior funding application during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, May 12, at 9 a.m. at the Mason County Airport Terminal, 5300 W. US 10.

Commissioners are scheduled to consider a request to certify a 0.2947-mill levy for senior centers and senior citizens programs throughout Mason County. The levy would help support operations and programming at senior centers including the Scottville Area Senior Center, Ludington Area Senior Center, Tallman Lake Senior Center, and Free Soil Area Senior Center.

The board will also consider approval of a senior funding application tied to ongoing services and activities for county senior programs. Materials included in the board packet outlined quarterly activity reports from multiple centers, including transportation, meal programs, fitness classes, recreation programs, educational workshops and outreach services.

According to reports submitted to the county, the Scottville Area Senior Center recorded 611 unduplicated visitors and 3,455 total participant visits during the first quarter of 2026. The center also reported providing homemaker, respite and medical transportation services to county seniors.

The Ludington Area Senior Center reported 524 unduplicated active participants during the first quarter, with 3,434 duplicated event visits recorded from January through March.

Tallman Lake Senior Center’s quarterly report highlighted ongoing activities including card games, crafts, exercise classes and community meals.
