SHELBY — The Mason County Central boys and girls track teams closed out the regular season Tuesday night with strong performances at a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division tri-meet against Shelby and Hesperia.

The Lady Spartans used the meet as a final tune-up before hosting the WMC Rivers Conference Championships on Friday and produced several first-place finishes and personal-record performances despite chilly conditions.

Maylan Sanders led the Spartans in the sprint events, winning both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Sanders also set a personal record of 28.30 seconds in the 200.

Madelyn Sterley added a first-place finish in the 400-meter run with a personal-best time of 1:08.52 while also recording a personal record in the 100-meter dash at 14.11 seconds.

Bailey Bullard placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 19.72 seconds and also improved her time in the 400.

In the distance races, Adison Thorne captured first place in the 3,200-meter run, while Raelyn Wilson finished second in the 800. Luella Purple also posted a personal-record time in the 800.

The Spartans closed the running events with a victory in the 4×400 relay behind the team of Reegan Healy, Lola Designe, Wilson and Purple.

Mason County Central also performed well in the field events. Faith Hawke won the discus with a throw of 111 feet and also placed third in the high jump.

Sophia Quick recorded a personal-best throw of 27 feet, 8 1/2 inches in the shot put, while Aiden Wood posted a personal record in the discus.

Hailee Rogers added a personal-best performance in the long jump and Chloe Jabrocki placed fourth in the high jump.

Coach Jacob Boone said the meet provided a strong final preparation for Friday’s conference championships.

“Tonight was about execution and staying focused despite the lower temperatures,” Boone said. “We saw a lot of girls hit personal bests, which is exactly what you want to see the week of the conference meet. It was a good final tune-up, and the team is looking forward to competing on our home track this Friday.”

The Mason County Central boys finished the regular-season conference dual schedule with a 5-1 record, good for second place in the Rivers Division.

The Spartans defeated Hesperia 92-31 and Shelby 81-37.

Jackson Poll led Mason County Central with victories in both the 100-meter dash in 11.92 seconds and the 800-meter run in 2:19.63.

Eli Smith won the 200-meter dash in 24.33 seconds, while Jayden Reams captured the 400-meter run in 54.61 seconds.

Jaxon Metten added a victory in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.98 seconds.

In the field events, Desmond Thomas won both the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 10 inches and the discus at 136 feet, 4 inches. Eli Glamzi earned first place in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches.

Mason County Central also won the 4×200 relay with the team of Raland McFadden, Noah Holden, Gage Dotson and Evan Examitas in 1:45.57.

The Spartans’ 4×400 relay team of Glamzi, Jackson Cooper, Jamison Cooper and Thomas also placed first with a time of 4:01.44.

Mason County Central will host the WMC Rivers Conference Championships on Friday at Spartan Community Field. Field events are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
