David Olszewski
David John Olszewski, known affectionately as Papa Dave, of Sarasota, Florida, died at age 80 on Sunday, April 12, 2026. Dave was born on Dec. 19, 1945, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Edward Olszewski and Helen Becic Olszewski.
He served honorably as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
A faithful Catholic, Dave will be remembered for his cheerful attitude, generosity, love of bringing people together through thoughtfully planned gatherings, and his lifelong passion for the Chicago Cubs. He was also an accomplished poet and the founder of the locally renowned Papa Dave Invitational Golf Tournament.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Busby; his stepchildren, Todd Roberts (Emily), Brooke Moll (Randy), Edward Kozina (Sarah) and his son, David Jr. (Cheryl); seven grandchildren, with one on the way; and one great-grandson.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 600 W. 45th St., Chicago, Ill.
Interment will take place at 1 p.m. on July 2, 2026, at Lakeview Cemetery, Ludington. Arrangements are being handled by Grace Funeral Home in Ludington. www.
