FREMONT — Mason County Central finished sixth Monday in a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division boys golf jamboree hosted by Holton at Waters Edge Golf Course in Fremont.
The Spartans posted a team score of 197 in the second league event of the season, competing in steady, gusty winds with only a brief sprinkle of rain. The course was reported to be in strong condition despite the weather.
Shelby continued to widen its lead in the conference standings, winning the jamboree with a 160. Hart was second at 172, followed by Ravenna (182), North Muskegon (190) and Hesperia (195). Holton shot 250.
Individually, Titan Carter of Shelby earned medalist honors with a 1-over-par 36.
For Mason County Central, Lane Sterley led the scoring with a 43, continuing a trend of improvement each match. Grayden Etchison and Colten Thwaites each carded 50, while freshman Rocco Krysiak added a 54 in one of his best rounds of the season.
Also competing for the Spartans were Cole VanderHaag (57) and Bode Etchison (59).
Mason County Central coach Tim Genson noted that both Thwaites and Krysiak recorded season-best scores in the outing.
The Spartans are scheduled to return to action Thursday, April 30, at the Shelby Invitational at Benona Shores Golf Course.
