SCOTTVILLE — One of the five candidates selected to interview for the Mason County Central superintendent position has withdrawn from consideration.

Shannon Harvilla has informed Mason County Press that he has removed his application after being offered and accepting a position with a school district in Arizona. Harvilla had been scheduled to interview May 4.

The MCC Board of Education last week selected five candidates for first-round interviews from a pool of 12 applicants. The position will replace longtime Superintendent Jeff Mount, who is retiring June 30 after 20 years in the role.

Harvilla most recently served as superintendent and federal programs director for Bristol Bay Borough School District in Alaska, overseeing districtwide operations including instruction, HR, finance and facilities.

Interviews will still be held May 4-5 at the high school. Remaining candidates include Amy Cockburn, Jason O’Dell, Jason Lundin and Jeff Tuka.

Of the finalists, Tuka is the only candidate with direct ties to the district. He is a Mason County Central graduate and currently serves as high school principal.

Board President Oscar Davila said the district is seeking community input during the process and hopes to have a new superintendent in place by July 1.
