VICTORY TOWNSHIP — Summit Tech Center held its annual student showcase Wednesday, opening its doors to the public for a hands-on look at career and technical education programs offered through the West Shore Educational Service District.

The event invited visitors to tour facilities, view student projects and interact with both students and instructors. Construction trades programming was hosted at the Rybicki Center, while all other programs were based on the West Shore Community College campus.

Summit Tech Center is part of the West Shore ESD’s career and technical education program, which was established in 1989 by the Mason-Lake Intermediate School District. The program serves nearly 500 high school juniors and seniors daily from Mason, Lake, Oceana and Manistee counties. The program in Mason, Lake, and Oceana counties is supported through an operating millage while Manistee County students attend through tuition paid by their school districts.

The CTE program emphasizes workforce readiness and college preparation, working with more than 100 local business and industry partners to align curriculum with current job market needs. The Tech Center also collaborates with West Shore Community College, Ferris State University, Baker College and Davenport University, allowing students to earn college credits while enrolled.

Programs highlighted during the showcase included agri-science, allied health technology, automotive technology, construction trades, culinary arts, digital media, educator academy, graphic arts, health occupations, IT networking, mechatronics, public safety and welding, along with work-based learning opportunities.

Organizers stated the goal of the event was to give the public a clearer understanding of how CTE programs prepare students for both immediate employment and continued education.
