
LUDINGTON — Several municipalities and school boards have expiring seats at the end of this year. Petitions are now available for citizens who would like to seek public office.
The following are open seats in various townships. The township seats are partisan, meaning candidates will need to declare a political party and then be nominated during the primary election, Tuesday, Aug. 4. The nominees will then run for office during the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The deadline for filing is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 at the local clerk office. Nominating petition packets are available at the Mason County Clerk’s Office, Mason County Courthouse, 304 E. Ludington Ave.
- Branch Township: treasurer, partial term, ending on Dec. 31, 2028
- Custer Township: clerk, partial term, ending on Dec. 31, 2028
- Eden Township, clerk, partial term, ending on Dec. 31, 2028
- Grant Township, supervisor, partial term, ending on Dec. 31, 2028
- Hamlin Township, clerk, partial term, ending on Dec. 31, 2028
- Sherman Township, treasurer, partial term, ending on Dec. 31, 2028
Public schools boards of education and WSCC board of trustees positions are non-partisan and are elected during the November 3 General Election. Nominating petitions are available at the county clerk’s office. The filing deadline for school boards is July 21 at 4 p.m.
- Ludington Area School District, three full six-year terms, ending Dec. 31, 2032
- Mason County Central School District, four full four-year terms, ending Dec. 31, 2030
- Mason County Eastern School District, three full four-year terms, ending Dec. 31, 2030
- West Shore Community College, two full six-year terms, ending Dec. 31, 2032
Elected positions for the City of Ludington are non-partisan. However, nominees are selected during the primary election in cases of more than two candidates. The top two voter receivers will then be placed on the November ballot.

Mayor, four-year term, ending on Dec. 31, 2030
Clerk, four-year term, ending on Dec. 31, 2030
Second ward councilor, four-year term, ending on Dec. 31, 2030
Fourth ward councilor, four-year term, ending on Dec. 31, 2030
Sixth ward councilor, four-year term, ending on Dec. 31, 2030
The City of Scottville will also have openings for city commission. That information will be published when it is available.
