MASON COUNTY — Mason County sheriff’s deputies had a busy day Friday, Jan. 23, responding to multiple vehicle crashes in white-out conditions.
A 59-year-old Manistee man and his passenger, a 44-year-old Manistee man, both received minor injuries following a rollover crash Friday at 12:34 p.m. on the US 31 freeway near the Ludington rest area in Summit Township, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. “The passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover,” said Sheriff Cole.
At 12:43 p.m., there was a two-vehicle crash on US 31 near Free Soil Road in Free Soil Township. A 74-year-old Free Soil woman was treated at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after she attempted a left turn from US 31 onto Free Soil Road. “Due to white-out conditions, she did not see a northbound vehicle,” said Sheriff Cole. The driver of the second vehicle, a 34-year-old Manistee man, had minor injuries.
A 42-year-old Ludington woman was treated at Corewell Health Ludington Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after she lost control of her vehicle and crossed the centerline and into the path of a northbound truck at 1:30 p.m. on US 31 north of Hoague Road in Free Soil Township, said Sheriff Cole.
There were several other crashes and slide-offs Friday including:
10:18 a.m., one-vehicle crash, no injury, Morton Road north of Gerber Road, Riverton Township.
12:35 p.m., numerous vehicle slide-offs, both northbound and southbound US 31 freeway near the Ludington rest area, Summit Township.
2:25 p.m., vehicle slide-off, no damage or injury, US 31 and Dewey Road, Sherman Township.
2:48 p.m., two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 west of Nelson Road, Pere Marquette Township.
4 p.m., vehicle slide-off, no damage or injury, US 31 north of Mavis Road, Sherman Township.
4:04 p.m., vehicle slide-off, no damage or injury, Quarterline and White roads, Grant Township.
4:35 p.m., vehicle slide-off, no damage or injury, Quarterline and Treml roads, Grant Township.
5:37 p.m., one-vehicle hit-and-run crash, no injury, 4200 block of North Lincoln Road, Hamlin Township. A mailbox was destroyed by a vehicle that slid off the road.
7:46 p.m., vehicle slide-off, no damage or injury, 4900 block of West US 10, Pere Marquette Township.
