FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — A 19-year-old Scottville man was arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies after he nearly struck a patrol car at a crash scene on US 31 south of Hoague Road Wednesday, Jan. 14, shortly before 9:30 a.m., said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
“When approached and asked for ID, he refused…multiple times,” said Sheriff Cole. He was arrested for assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and lodged in the Mason County Jail.
No one was injured in the one-vehicle rollover crash.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office responded to three other rollover crashes Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, including:
- 8:23 a.m., one-vehicle rollover crash, no injury, US 31 north of Decker Road, Sherman Township.
- 11:39 a.m., one-vehicle rollover crash, minor injury, US 31 south of Freeman Road, Free Soil Township.
- 3:58 p.m., one-vehicle rollover crash, no injury, US 10 east of Tuttle Road, Custer Township.
