Ingrid Fournier
Ingrid Fournier has been appointed to serve on the Mason County Promise Board. Fournier was appointed by Michigan Senator Winnie Brinks (D), senate majority leader. She will complete the term vacated by Vic Burwell.
Fournier is the branch manager of the Mason County District Library Scottville Branch. She is a graduate of University of Michigan and has a background in both education and service.
Before her role at MCDL, she served as a public educator for 25 years in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Ludington. She started her career through public service at the White House Office of National Service (ONS), when the National Community Service Act was passed. This act helped to establish AmeriCorps, a federal service program that benefits low-income rural and urban communities. Mason County’s schools and West Shore Community College have utilized it to establish college advisor roles.
Fournier also served as a Peace Corps member in the West Indies and shared that serving as a Peace Corps volunteer taught her how to work in development.
“The most important lesson I learned through the experience was that change only happens through relationships and listening to the members of the community,” she said.
“I believe students having access to college will make our communities stronger…[and] an educated population will make our nation stronger,” Fournier said.
The local Promise Zone board is governed by 11 people, including two legislative appointees. The program has distributed more than $2 million in tuition assistance for local students who attend West Shore Community College, and has funded related activities, including two post-secondary advisor roles at Mason County high schools, WSCC College for Kids scholarships, educational supplies awards for scholars, and more.
