SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Central Marching Band has had a successful week of competition earning high ratings.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, the band performed at the Michigan Band and Orchestra Association district marching band competition at Big Rapids High School, earning a division 1 superior rating.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, the band earned third place in class C division at the Grandville Marching Band Invitational at Grandville High School. The Spartan marching band competed against eight other class C schools. The band’s score was 80.9, the highest MCC has received in recent years of marching band competition.

The band’s fall 2025 show is titled “Legends of Motown” and features the songs “Respect,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “I’ll Be There,” and “Don’e You Worry ‘Bout a Thing.”

The 32 piece band is directed by Brian Parent, who is in his first year teaching at MCC. Drum majors are Trinniti Arnold and Maggie Robel. The band also performed on Sept. 27 at the Grand Haven Marching Band Invitational at Grand Haven High School.

“I am very proud of the students and their hard work this season,” Parent said. “This is the highest score they have ever received on competitive circuit.”
