LUDINGTON — It took a jury less than a half an hour of deliberations in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court Wednesday, Sept. 17, to find Timothy Charles Zeller, 42, guilty of methamphetamine possession, said Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Beth Hand.
“On June 19, 2024, a Ludington police sergeant located Zeller at approximately 2:30 a.m. lying in the grassy area between the outside fenced yard and the street’s curb,” stated Prosecutor Hand. “The sergeant approached Zeller to check on his wellbeing. The defendant’s head was resting on a backpack that contained a black box which held a quantity of methamphetamine residue.
“The defendant chose his right to trial,” said Hand. “After hearing evidence, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict after deliberating less than 30 minutes.
“Mr. Zeller is a fourth habitual offender and was on felony probation at the time of the offense,” said Prosecutor Hand.
“I appreciate the hard work of our law enforcement in protecting our public. In this situation, the sergeant’s desire to protect one of our citizens led to the discovery of drugs in his possession. Any time drugs are taken off the street, it makes our county a safer place.”
Zeller is scheduled for sentencing Nov. 4.
